Stainless steel – a material for plant and apparatus construction

For many industrial applications, the use of stainless steel is the best choice: the metal is rust-proof, robust, resistant and requires little or no maintenance. In plant and apparatus engineering, a reliable and sustainable material is required that can withstand extreme operating conditions.
Stainless steel offers many advantages over other materials and is favoured by many procurement bodies.

For the long-term storage of highly radioactive waste, the use of stainless steel is particularly suitable. Authentic stainless steel is relatively easy to weld and remains in the weld state, so subsequent heat treatment is not required. Stainless steel is used in many critical applications because it has excellent corrosion resistance and high toughness at sub-zero temperatures. Stainless steel is available in different shapes and weldable. AISI 316L stainless steel is used in plant and apparatus engineering for the coating of waste containers which are used for the long-term storage of materials.
